Halliburton Company CAREERS: APPLY NOW FOR THE LATEST VACANCIES

Halliburton Company is a multinational corporation serving the global oil and gas industry. Founded in 1919 by Erle P. Halliburton, the company began as a specialist oil-well cementing business in Duncan, Oklahoma. More than a century later, Halliburton has developed into a major provider of products and services used throughout the energy sector.

The company is incorporated in the United States and maintains major headquarters in Houston, Texas, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Operations extend across international markets, supported by a large workforce and a broad network of facilities and service locations.

Early Development

The foundation of Halliburton’s business was oil-well cementing. In 1920, Erle P. Halliburton successfully used cement to control a gas well near Wilson, Oklahoma. A year later, a patent was granted for a method designed to prevent water from entering oil wells.

During its early years, the company introduced equipment and techniques intended to make cementing operations more accurate and efficient. Growth accelerated during the Mexia, Texas, oil boom, and by 1922 the company had completed hundreds of wells.

Halliburton expanded beyond the United States during the 1920s. Equipment was sold in Burma and India in 1926, marking the beginning of the company’s international activities. During the following decades, operations expanded across North and South America and into other parts of the world.

Offshore work became another important milestone. In 1938, Halliburton completed cementing work on an offshore well from a barge near the Louisiana coast. The company later introduced a marine cementing vessel, further extending its capabilities in offshore oil operations.

International Expansion

The company continued building an international network during the 1940s and 1950s. Offices and subsidiaries were established in countries including Venezuela, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England, Canada, Peru, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia.

Revenue reached $100 million for the first time in 1952. Following the death of founder Erle P. Halliburton in 1957, the company continued expanding its range of oilfield services and equipment.

A significant corporate change occurred on July 5, 1961, when the organization officially adopted the name Halliburton Company. The business subsequently expanded into additional areas connected to oil and gas exploration, production, and well services.

Business Operations

Halliburton’s activities cover several major areas of the energy industry. These include oilfield services, formation evaluation, digital and consulting services, production optimization, and fluid systems.

The company has also undergone major structural changes throughout its history. The acquisition of Dresser Industries in 1998 brought together several businesses and contributed to the formation of Kellogg Brown & Root, later known as KBR. KBR eventually became an independent publicly traded company in 2007.

Leadership and Corporate History

Jeff Miller became president of Halliburton in 2014 and was appointed chief executive officer in 2017, succeeding Dave Lesar. Under continuing corporate development, Halliburton has remained focused on providing technology, equipment, and services for energy exploration and production.

The company’s long history includes significant international growth as well as periods of legal, environmental, and corporate controversy. Issues associated with the Iraq War, the Deepwater Horizon incident, environmental concerns, whistleblower retaliation, and other matters have attracted public and regulatory attention at different points in Halliburton’s history.

Despite these challenges, Halliburton remains a major participant in the worldwide energy-services industry. Its development from a small oil-well cementing operation in Oklahoma into a global energy-services company reflects more than a century of technological development, acquisitions, international expansion, and changes within the oil and gas sector.
