Established in 1955, the Group is the largest retail operator in the Middle East and has been a member of the International Association of Department Stores since 2023.With a workforce of over 16,000 employees, Chalhoub Group operates across 14 countries, with a strong presence throughout the Middle East and expanding international reach. For nearly seven decades, the Group has been a trusted partner and creator of luxury experiences, bridging cultures and shaping the regional luxury ecosystem.
History and Leadership
Chalhoub Group was founded in Damascus, Syria, by Michel and Widad Chalhoub, beginning with the retail of Christofle products. Seeking growth opportunities amid economic uncertainty, the family relocated to Beirut, Lebanon, in 1965, expanding into the Near East and Gulf region. Following the outbreak of civil war in Lebanon in 1975, the Group moved its headquarters to Kuwait, and later to Dubai in 1990 during the Gulf War—where it remains today.In 2001, leadership transitioned to the founders’ sons, Anthony and Patrick Chalhoub, who served as Co-CEOs. Following Anthony Chalhoub’s passing in 2018, Patrick Chalhoub became President, continuing to guide the Group’s long-term vision and growth.
Business Activities and Operations : Chalhoub Group operates across the luxury, fashion, and beauty sectors through three core business models: Distribution – regionally and locally across eight countries :Retail – operating more than 950 stores, online platforms, and mobile applications : Marketing Services – delivering brand-building and omnichannel expertise.The Group manages a portfolio of over 400 international luxury brands and more than 10 owned brands, spanning fashion, beauty, jewellery, watches, eyewear, and art de vivre.Strategic Partnerships and Joint Ventures : Chalhoub Group maintains long-standing joint ventures and partnerships with leading global luxury brands, including:Louis Vuitton ,Dior Couture ,Sephora ,Fendi ,Celine ,Givenchy ,Christian Louboutin ,Puig ,Havas.Retail franchises include Saks Fifth Avenue, Loewe, Carolina Herrera, Swarovski, Lacoste, and Michael Kors, while its distribution portfolio includes L’Oréal Luxe.In 2018, the Group entered a strategic joint venture with Farfetch, enabling selected brands to be featured on its global luxury e-commerce platform, supported by Chalhoub’s regional distribution and Arabic content curation. The Group acquired Christofle in 2017, strengthened its jewellery and watches portfolio through a partnership with Korloff in 2022, and expanded its digital footprint with the acquisition of a majority stake in Threads Styling, a London-based personal shopping and e-commerce platform. Innovation and Omnichannel Excellence :As a hybrid luxury retailer, Chalhoub Group delivers seamless omnichannel experiences across physical stores, digital platforms, and mobile apps.
